May 28 Motionball Fundraiser

posted Apr 14, 2011 8:47 AM by Yunus Tughra   [ updated Apr 18, 2011 8:26 AM ]

Thursday, 24 March 2011

We have an exciting event for athletes to attend - Motionball's Marathon of Sport.  It's a full day event consisting of five different sports, played at Havergal College in Toronto on May 28th 2011.  It will be an all day affair with food, drinks and a lot of fun!.

A team of individuals outside of SO (either a group of friends or a company) will be matched up with one or two athletes for the day. This is a fundraising event and teams will be paying to participate but there will be no cost to the athlete. The team that the athlete is matched to will be his/her team for the day and they will compete together in all events.

If coaches/parents/council could recommend one or two athletes they might see as good candidates for this opportunity then be sure to contact us! If you have the athletes contact info or better yet their email addresses, then we can follow up and contact them with more details.

This is a full day sports event, so athletes that have the endurance and interest to interact with the team and be active all day would be best for this opportunity.

Marathon of Sport is an intense day of athletic competition that sees Motionball supporters compete alongside Special Olympians in a variety of sports. Traditionally 18 teams of 10 people – each team joined by a Special Olympic Athlete – compete against each other in flag football, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee and bench ball.

As a result of the events popularity and success, the 2010 Marathon of Sport Toronto grew from 18 to 30 teams and this year we are expecting to grow from 30-40 teams!

Toronto Ski Demons Top Podium!

Barrie, Sunday March 6, 2011

Heather Howes

After a full day of rain on Saturday, the weather delivered fresh snow and clear skies for last Sunday’s Alpine Skiing Fun Race at Snow Valley in Barrie. With more than 80 athletes registered from 7 ski teams across the region, it was a busy day with lots of action. Toronto Ski Demons’ sole female representative, Leslie Woodyatt secured first place in her Super Glide Division. Coming off a gold medal performance in Thunder Bay, Tino Zandona skied two solid runs to a fourth place finish – a mere six seconds off the winning time in a tight Division.

Shaving more than four seconds off in his second run, Youngchang Choi skied beautifully into his Division’s first place; while Jeffrey Vanier took second place, even beating out a hometown favourite from Barrie.Bryan Bell laid down two fantastic races for a second place finish, made all the more remarkable by the fact that it was his very first Special Olympics race, and Ryan Kulchyski skied two of the day’s fastest overall runs to take first place in the M10 Division.

Congratulations to everyone who participated – it was a fantastic team performance to wrap up 2011. Huge thanks to Ski Demons Head Coach Amber Panchyshyn, our hosts in Region 6 and to Snow Valley Resort for the great ski day. Hope to see you all next year on the slopes!

Thank you, Brampton Battalion!
