BE A FAN OF INSPIRATION
On January 20th more than 400 athletes and coaches from across Ontario will gather in Thunder Bay, Ontario to compete in the 2011 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games.
The 2011 Games is their chance to compete on a provincial stage, and potentially represent Ontario at the 2012 Special Olympics National Winter Games in St. Albert, Alberta. Participants will compete in the sports of Speed Skating, Curling, Snowshoeing, Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating and Nordic Skiing. We wish our Toronto athletes all the best! |

Special Olympics Toronto volunteers and athletes will be selling 50/50 tickets at the Toronto Raptors home game on Wednesday, December 15 and at the Toronto Maple Leafs home game on Thursday, January 20, 2011. Support us and buy some tickets if you are at the Air Canada Centre on either date. You may the big winner!

2010 Special Olympics Ontario- Golf Open Friday September 17, 2010 Rolling Hills Golf Club- Stouffville, ON Registration Information for Coaches, Communities and Athletes Special Olympics Ontario launched golf this year as an additional sanctioned sport. A number of communities have programs already up and running, and are operational at a variety of levels. The interest is HIGH and the potential to have Special Olympics athletes engaged is unlimited. The goal of the Day is to celebrate golf in Ontario. While the competition may have different formats in proceeding years, we are starting a 2 person scramble 9-hole Alternate Shot Team Play and Individual Skills Competition. This will provide an opportunity to assess our athletes’ development and plan for the future. Tournament Format - 2 Person Scramble, 9-hole Alternate Shot Play
- 2 Person Teams: 1 Special Olympics Ontario Athlete and a Partner
- Individual Skills Competition
Partner Pairing - Partners will be provided. Partners are golfers who have experience interacting with Special Olympics Athletes.
- Athletes will be paired with Partners that will be complementary to their ability classification and their enjoyment in the team experience.
- Rough Guidelines for Ability Classification;
New: Learning the Fundamentals Beginner: Refining the Fundamentals. Established: Implementing skills into course play. Experienced: Independently playing 9 or 18 holes. On Sunday May 9, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto hosted a gala event celebrating the $16,000 raised by the community to send Special Olympic athletes from Toronto to the 2010 Summer National Games. The celebration was attended by the Toronto athletes, members of Special Olympics Toronto and Special Olympics Ontario, youth leaders, the sponsors from the Islamic community and a number of dignitaries. These dignitaries included Chief Of Police Bill Blair, Deputy Chief Tony Warr, Member of Parliament Derek Lee, Member of Provincial Parliament Bas Balkissoon and Toronto City Councillors Chin Lee and Raymond Cho. The event included a wonderful lunch and speeches by the dignitaries and prominent members of the Islamic community, all of which was highlighted by a keynote speech from athlete Vincenzia Stalk. We wish to thank the sponsors and organizers of the event as well as those who attended on a Mothers' Day afternoon. Many thanks to the Islamic Foundation of Toronto and its members for hosting our celebration and particular thanks to Waris Malik, the Fundraising Co-ordinator of the Toronto Community Council who made all of this possible.
