On Sunday May 9, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto hosted a gala event celebrating the $16,000 raised by the community to send Special Olympic athletes from Toronto to the 2010 Summer National Games.  The celebration was attended by the Toronto athletes, members of Special Olympics Toronto and Special Olympics Ontario, youth leaders, the sponsors from the Islamic community and a number of dignitaries.  These dignitaries included Chief Of Police Bill Blair, Deputy Chief Tony Warr, Member of Parliament Derek Lee, Member of Provincial Parliament Bas Balkissoon and Toronto City Councillors Chin Lee and Raymond Cho.  The event included a wonderful lunch and speeches by the dignitaries and prominent members of the Islamic community, all of which was highlighted by a keynote speech from athlete Vincenzia Stalk.

We wish to thank the sponsors and organizers of the event as well as those who attended on a Mothers' Day afternoon.  Many thanks to the Islamic Foundation of Toronto and its members for hosting our celebration and particular thanks to Waris Malik, the Fundraising Co-ordinator of the Toronto Community Council who made all of this possible.
